A woman's head with colorful beads on it

A young boy living in the village was troubled by his inability to forget old memories and his habit of constantly thinking about the same thing.

If someone said something to him, or if something wrong happened to him, he would keep thinking about the incident all day long. That same thought would keep revolving in his mind all the time. Then he would either curse his luck and God for the accident or he would think about taking revenge from the person in his mind.

Due to his habit of overthinking, he had neither good relationships nor could he do any work properly. He was in a constant state of mental unrest. Seeing his condition, his friend advised him to visit a Jain master who lives in a nearby Buddhist monastery. You should go to him; he will certainly provide some solution to your mental issues.

The boy goes to the master and tells him about his problem, explaining how he keeps thinking about every incident over and over again and cannot forget old memories. After listening to the boy's problem, the master gets up and goes inside the monastery. The master's leaving without answering feels a bit strange to the boy, but he still remains seated.

After a while, he sees that the masters are coming towards him with a clay glass filled with water. They stand next to the boy and ask him, "Tell me, how much does this glass weigh?" The boy said, "I can't say exactly, but the weight of this glass is very light." The master said, "My question is, if I hold this glass like this for a little while, what will happen?" The boy said, "Nothing will happen." The master then asked, "What if I hold this glass like this for 1 hour?" The boy replied, "Your hands will start to hurt." The master then asked, "What if I hold it like this for an entire day?" The boy said, "You will start to feel intense pain in your hands, and your hand may even get paralyzed."

The master said - very good, but did the weight of the glass change during this time? The boy said - no. The weight didn't change. The master said - in the same way, when we have problems in our lives, the longer we hold them in our minds, their weight will keep increasing just like the water in a glass. The more we keep thinking about it, the more the pain will increase. That’s why we should think about the events in our lives, but more importantly, we should learn from them. If we keep holding onto one thing, it will create pain in your life just like that glass. That’s why stop worrying, because worry only leads to your funeral.
